Time Out says

A leading name of Western-style painting in Japan, particularly in the postwar era, Ryuzaburo Umehara (1888-1986) studied in Europe from 1908 to 1913 and met Impressionist master Auguste Renoir in Paris. Umehara stayed in touch with his French 'master' for years after this while developing his own, vibrant and decorative style, which can be admired in the dozens of Umehara works displayed at the Mitsubishi Ichigokan's autumn special. Expanding upon the relationship between Renoir and Umehara and comparing their works side by side, the exhibition also features art by the likes of Picasso and Georges Rouault, both of whom knew and corresponded with Umehara.
