Time Out says

Dumb can mean one of two things: stupid or mute. And this dual meaning is the founding concept behind the group of artists who named their collective ‘Dumb Type’.

Formed in 1984, Dumb Type is known for creating new art forms that portray a dark, cynical and humorous world in which media, consumerism and technology are the norms of everyday life. According to the late founding member, Teiji Furuhashi (1960-1995), Dumb Type explores and expresses the true idea of what reality is.

This 2019 exhibition marks the 35th anniversary of Dumb Type. Bringing together several works and installations, including archive materials, this showcase focuses on each member’s distinctive styles and the collective as a whole. The highlights are the six large-scale installations: some are new works while others have previously been shown at the Centre Pompidou Metz, France.
