Featuring 65 European masterpieces borrowed from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, this dazzling exhibition at the National Art Centre, Tokyo, highlights some of the most prominent painters of the past five centuries. Spanning from the Renaissance to the 19th century, featured greats range from Caravaggio to Van Gogh and Monet to Cezanne. Of the 65 paintings, 46 of these works have never been displayed in Japan before.
The exhibition is divded into three sections ('Faith and the Renaissance', 'The Age of Absolutism and the Enlightenment' and 'Revolution and Art for the People') to walk visitors through the extensive history of European art and their movements.
Highlights to look forward to include Auguste Renoir's 'A Young Girl with Daisies' (1889), 'Still Life with Apples and Pears' by Cézanne and even one of Monet's 'Water Lilies'.
