Now here's one very specific art exhibition: the Shiseido Gallery in Ginza dedicates its winter slot to photographer Koichi Watanabe, who specialises in taking pictures of the Japanese knotweed. This plant, native to East Asia, was brought to Europe by German botanist Philipp Franz von Siebold in the 1840s and has spread wildly ever since, becoming a real nuisance in gardens across the continent. Having first encountered it in Hokkaido, Watanabe's interest in the weed is purely artistic – he's travelled the world in search of it and now presents around 20 shots of this pesky plant, along with a documentary film and other related materials.
