Time Out says

One of the first Japanese artists to break onto the international avant-garde scene after the war, Kobe-born Kumi Sugai (1919-1996) was a painter, sculptor and printmaker who moved to Paris in 1952 after studying traditional Japanese painting. There he quickly established himself as a leading innovator of contemporary art, specialising in geometrical figures and abstract forms. This Aoyama display features mainly Sugai prints from the '70s, when his characteristic style was already fully developed.
