Each summer, Studio Ghibli teams up with the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo to showcase the work of talented animators, both from within their own ranks and from overseas. This year, they throw the spotlight on two-time Oscar winner Frédéric Black, who picked up Academy Awards in 1982 and 1987 for his short films Crac and L'homme qui plantait des arbres (The Man Who Planted Trees). The latter film occupies pride of place in this exhibition, which also features somewhere in the region of 1,000 original artworks and drawings by the Canadian animator – and original music by half-Canadian J-pop band Monkey Majik.
