Highly detailed penmanship meets dramatic, otherworldly visions in the work of Manabu Ikeda, a visual artist who draws on the aesthetics of traditional Japanese painting in his massive images, most of which take years to complete. His 'The Pen – Condensed Universe' exhibition, held in both Saga and Kanazawa earlier this year, has attracted widespread attention and now comes to Tokyo for the first time. The pieces on display include the 3m-by-4m 'Rebirth', which the artist worked on for a total of five years.
