Time Out says

Visiting Japan in the early years of the Meiji era, American zoologist Edward Morse was inspired by Japanese nature and the lifestyles of the common people. He collected Japanese ceramics, and also gathered photographs and drew sketches in order to better tell his story once back in the United States. These items came to form the Morse Collection, housed in the Peabody Essex Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, with this exhibition at the Edo-Tokyo Museum showing a selection of 320 items from that collection.
