Time Out says

Dedicated to documenting and expressing especially the spiritual and emotional sides of Japan's ancient matsuri (traditional festivals), photographer Tatsuya Shimohira moved to Aomori's Hachinohe around a decade ago, coming into contact with the region's many religious celebrations. He continued his matsuri-hunting in Mie Prefecture, home to the Grand Shrine of Ise, one of Shinto's holiest sites. This Roppongi exhibit lays out his experiences through a series of mystically powerful, mainly black-and-white photos.
