A Tama Art University graduate, tireless social critic and creator of 'gag manga' hits like 'Jiji Oyaji 2000' and 'Yajikita in Deep', Kotobuki Shiriagari is more than just a comic artist. His eclectic activities also include the crafting of installations that draw on everyday essentials and are centred around circular movement – spinning plants, teapots, phones and cakes, in other words. Now presenting his first non-manga solo exhibition, the Kobe Design University prof challenges the viewer to approach art ironically and not take things at face value. A visit to Shiriagari's wacky world of the absurd just might be reason enough to head up to Nerima this summer.
