The Pioneers: Masters of Edo Painting

Explore artwork painted during the Edo period, featuring avant garde artists like Ito Jakuchu, Nagasawa Rosetsu and Utagawa Kuniyoshi, as well as more mainstream artists such as Tawaraya Sotatsu, Ogata Korin and Maruyama Okyo. All 35 artists selected for this exhibition are from different parts of Japan and are considered pioneers for their unconventional modes of expression.
