Along with his contemporaries Andreas Gursky and Thomas Struth, Düsseldorf-based Thomas Ruff is one of the German triumvirate of living lens legends, who together have pushed the frontiers of photography's potentialities further than most. The first large-scale retrospective of Ruff's work in Japan, this display explores the photogram innovator's art from the early 'Interieurs' series, which depicted stereotypical scenes of German domesticity, to the experimental, pseudo-scientific 'cassini' and 'ma.r.s.' collections. The more than 120 pieces on show take you deep into Ruff's highly topical and realistic but ever-so-quirky world of modern architecture, internet phenomena and visual trickery.
