To the North, From Here

In summer 2014, adventurer-turned-photographer Naoki Ishikawa and renowned contemporary artist Yoshitomo Nara joined forces on a trip that took them from Aomori to Hokkaido and further north to Sakhalin. Their experiences on the ancient lands of the Ainu and Nivkh peoples and among the Japanese remains on Sakhalin formed the basis for this exhibition, which recounts the two men's journey through photos, diary entries and their personal belongings. Ainu music is another feature of the display, with revival group Marewrew scheduled to perform at some point during the exhibition period.
