World Press Photo 2014

A panel of judges sifted through submissions from 5,754 photojournalists in 132 different countries to select the winners of this year's World Press Photo Contest, and the best shots are now going on display at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography over the summer. National Geographic photographer John Stanmeyer takes first prize with a mysterious photo of African migrants with glowing mobile phone screens at night on the shore of Djibouti City. The competition also showcases images from the fields of sport, nature, arts, entertainment and daily life, including categories in both staged and observed portraits.
