Time Out says

Self-taught and woefully underappreciated, Fukuoka-born Yajuro Takashima (1890-1975) never found his way into the shining halls of the Japanese art world during his lifetime. Posthumous exhibitions, however, have helped his vivid, strikingly realistic Western-style paintings find an audience eager to learn more about this master of still lifes, landscapes and portraits. This display features a total of 150 Takashima pieces, including his representative 'Candles' and 'Moon' series, making for an unofficial retrospective that dives deep into the lonely virtuoso's work and life.
