Even now, it's hard to see the name Fabio and not expect to read 'and Grooverider' immediately afterwards. As one half of the most famous tag-team in drum 'n' bass, the DJ and producer born Fitzroy Heslop is probably used to it by now. Fabio and Grooverider started out during the halcyon days of pirate radio and acid house before honing in on the emerging jungle scene, and would end up helming their own drum 'n' bass show on the UK's Radio 1 for over a decade – a show that aired its final episode just a few weeks ago, in fact. Even without his regular sparring partner, Fabio is one of the best d'n'b DJs around, his penchant for warm, jazzy grooves offering a welcome contrast to the relentless bangers preferred by many of his peers.
