Eiji Uchida's black comedy Lowlife Love (Gesu no Ai) has been rather well received at film festivals around the world since debuting at last year's TIFF. Partially crowd-funded, it explores the nether regions of Japan's indie film scene, where misogyny, abuse and blackmail are daily occurrences. Every Thursday, Theatre Shinjuku screens the flick with English subtitles – a nice chance to catch one of the better domestic indie productions in recent memory.
