Time Out says

Transcendent pop-cultural icon David Bowie's untimely death has seen tributes pour in from all across the world (read Time Out founder Tony Elliott's here), and Ikebukuro's Shin-Bungeiza now joins in with two nights of special screenings. The feature film is of course Nagisa Oshima's Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence (1983), which perhaps marks Bowie's finest two hours on the silver screen and charms with a ragtag cast starring 'Beat' Takeshi Kitano, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Johnny Okura, rock singer Yuya Uchida and folk-blues man Kan Mikami, along with Tom Conti and Jack Thompson. Film buffs and Bowie fans won't want to miss this chance to re-watch the once-controversial POW drama on the big screen.
