Green Day

Summer Sonic's headliners will be warming up for their festival date with this (comparatively) intimate show at Shibuya AX, tickets for which sold out in a flash when they went on sale at the start of the month. Longtime Green Day fans are still wrestling with the fact that frontman Billie Joe Armstrong turned 40 this year, but the band themselves seem to be taking middle age – and its associated indulgences – in their stride. It's certainly hard to imagine a twentysomething punk getting away with releasing a trilogy of albums, as Green Day are set to do with the forthcoming ¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, and ¡Tré!. What next: prog rock?
