Joe Lally

As the bassist for hugely influential post-hardcore band Fugazi, Joe Lally has always been able to count on a strong following in Japan – even after he had to cut short his 2007 tour here following the death of his father. With his main band on indefinite hiatus, Lally has pursued a solo career whose output sounds much like you'd expect from the bassist of Fugazi: rich with rhythmic invention but short on strong melodic hooks. In a nice touch, one of his support bands for the evening is Crypt City, the group led by former Number Girl bassist Kentaro Nakao, though both acts risk being overshadowed by Mogwai-esque post rockers Toe. He'll be back at Shibuya O-Nest on Sept 11.
