They've been described as an 'indie superduo', which manages to sound both hyperbolic and mildly condescending. Not that Norman Blake and Euros Childs seem particularly concerned, of course: the indie songwriter veterans of Teenage Fanclub and Gorky's Zygotic Mynci, respectively, are just having a bit of fun with their new collaboration. When we first heard Jonny's self-titled debut back in January, its retro, harmony-laden pop sounded cheerful to the point of saccharine, but now that spring is here it's beginning to make more sense. While Blake and Childs don't do much together that they haven't done better with their respective bands, it's hard to resist the charm of some of their stronger songs, especially lead single Candyfloss.
