Note: Promoters VInyl Japan announced on February 1 that the Metal Box in Dub dates have been postponed, perhaps indefinitely, after guitarist Keith Levene was unable to enter Japan. The exact reasons remain unclear, though anyone who remembers PiL's Live in Tokyo album may appreciate the irony.
Public Image Limited's Metal Box is widely recognised as one of the defining statements of the post-punk era, but it's become the subject of a bizarre custody war between its creators. Singer John Lydon did an impressive job of recreating the album with a cobbled-together PiL at last year's Summer Sonic, but now original guitarist Keith Levene and bassist Jah Wobble are offering a rendition of their own. Metal Box in Dub was spawned by an impromptu session at the 2010 Musicport Festival in England, with Johnny Rotter of tribute band The Sex Pistols Experience on vocals – a combination that's being repeated for these upcoming Japan dates.
