Nihon Rock Festival

Koenji's weirdest live house has been a little late holding its annual rock fest this year, though perhaps that isn't such a bad thing – previous editions of the event, taking place in early July, have gotten awfully sweaty. The Nihon Rock Festival spreads over eight days, and stars many of Muryoku Muzenji's regular acts, most of whom you're pretty much guaranteed never to have heard of. Watch out for unhinged post-punk quartet The Mornings on the opening day, and nu-prog ensemble Ore Wa Konna Mon Ja Nai on the final one. If you're planning on heading to at least a couple of the gigs, a pass for the entire festival (which can be reserved at nihonrockfes@mail.goo.ne.jp) costs just ¥3,000.
