Spend half an hour surfing YouTube videos of hip guitar rock from the past 40 years, and you might begin to get a feel for what Psysalia Psysalis Psyche sound like. On their latest album, #7, the Tokyo five-piece flit between Strokes-esque garage rock, grunge, Madchester vibes and furious noise rock that wouldn't have sounded out of place on a late-'80s Touch and Go compilation. Miraculously, it just about hangs together – though that might be thanks to the fact that, like contemporaries Plasticzooms, the group manage to keep their image coherent even when their music isn't. Psysalia Psysalis Psyche will be belatedly marking the release of #7 this week, with support from psych-tinged rockers Hate No Hate.
