Roberto Fonseca

Cuban pianist Roberto Fonseca shot to global fame when he was given the unenviable task of taking over from the late Ruben Gonzalez in the Buena Vista Social Club band – and succeeded brilliantly. A decade on, he's emerged as a formidable solo talent (while his penchant for taking his top off, D'Angelo style, probably doesn't hurt). Last year's Yo album demonstrated an impressive reach – expect to hear North African influences amidst the more obviously Cuban-style jazz when Fonseca plays at Blue Note this weekend.
