Yuck

Veterans of Arctic Monkeys-esque guitar band Cajun Dance Party, singer Daniel Blumberg and guitarist Max Bloom have headed in a different direction with their new group. Unwitting listeners to Yuck's eponymous debut could be forgiven for wondering if it was a lost Dinosaur Jr. record, so accurate (or, if you want to be unkind about it, slavish) is the band's recreation of the sound of late-'80s and early-'90s US college radio rock. Sonic Youth, Buffalo Tom, Pavement, Sparklehorse – they've all been thrown into the blender, resulting in a musical smoothie that's both derivative and heaps of fun.
