Their business in budget-priced Italian grub is obviously booming, so the folks behind citywide pizza chain Pizzeria Bar Napoli probably thought 'why not?' when someone suggested they should take the next logical (?) step and set up a Spanish alternative to ¥500 margheritas. That's exactly what appears to be the thinking behind paella joint Barta, the pilot branch of which opened in Kichijoji this July: the main draw here is 'one-coin' paellas, which come in eight varieties and are predictably petite – but perhaps voluminous enough to satisfy small eaters, especially if combined with one of the many lunch set options. More booze-compatible alternatives include a whole roast chicken and a range of tapas, making this one worth consideration as a power-up (and pre-funk) spot for parties planning to hit up Kichijoji's many bars or catch a gig later in the evening.
