Opened on a quiet Meguro back street in October 2015, PNB ranks among the more stylish 'third wave' coffee shops in Tokyo – minimalist Nordic design is the name of the game, light colours dominate, and natural light fills the smallish space. Run by Dane Peter Buhl, the shop sources its beans from Danish roasters Coffee Collective and La Cabra Coffee, both of which specialise in direct trade with producers and pay up to 25% above the Fair Trade minimum. This admirable dedication to economic fairness aside, the staff here brew up some absolutely wonderful Joe, available in either hand drip or AeroPressed form but not in any speciality varieties – those looking for lattes or cappucinos will have to go elsewhere. On the other hand, the menu does feature a range of Mikkeller Beer, allowing patrons to combine their coffee-sipping with a fine Danish craft brew. Opening times are fairly limited, but if you're in the area during daylight hours, do give PNB a shot – you're unlikely to leave disappointed.
