If the heat of summer in Japan isn't enough for you, Sanagi food hall in Shinjuku is hosting a spicy food festival that will definitely make you sweat. The Summer Hell, Beer Heaven food festival has dishes including spicy meat tofu (¥780), red hot shrimp (¥880), Death Nachos (¥680), and three types of crispy fried chicken – all spicy, of course (¥800 each).
As the name suggests, you can cool off in beer heaven after all that hellishly hot food with six brews from craft brewery Coedo. On tap, you’ll find pale lager Ruri and India pale lager Kyara (both S size ¥650, M size ¥850). Or branch out with a bottled beer like the hefeweizen Shiro (¥900), black lager Shikkoku (¥850), amber ale Beniaka made from sweet potato (¥900), or India pale ale Marihana (¥850).
Bookings via Sanagi's website aren’t required, but the venue is popular, so if you want to be sure of snagging a table, we’d recommend it.
