Japanese chain restaurant Yoshinoya is famous for their no-frills gyudon that are as affordable as they are easy to find. While the beef and rice bowls are usually best suited for a quick and casual pitstop, an upcoming collaboration with Tokyo’s exclusive supperclub and beef specialist Wagyumafia will see the chain’s signature humble gyudon elevated into a more upscale version of itself.
The special-edition gyudon will follow the same formula as Yoshinoya's traditional gyudon, made by sauteing thinly sliced beef with onions and serving over a bed of rice. However, for this special collaboratiom, it will instead feature premium-grade Kobe beef selected by Wagyumafia co-owner Hisato Hamada.
The sweet-savoury sauce is one that Wagyumafia says took a year to develop, as the brand is adding its own twist to Yoshinoya’s top secret sauce recipe. You can also add a couple drops of Wagyumafia’s house-made hot sauce ‘Wagyusco’ for an extra fiery kick to the dish.
The price tag for this exclusive gyudon bowl? A mere ¥11,000 including tax – that's enough to buy 28 standard bowls of gyudon (¥387) at Yoshinoya. But if you’re unperturbed by the eye-watering price, you can book a time slot to try the exclusive gyudon for yourself only at Wagyumafia District. Don't go looking at your neighbourhood Yoshinoya.
This is a one-off event that is held for one day only at Wagyumafia's Jingumae location, so you'll want to be quick to reserve a spot as seats are limited.
