Mt Fuji's recent appointment as a UNESCO World Heritage Site is pretty big news for Yamanashi Prefecture, which likes to bill itself as ‘Fujinokuni’ (literally, ‘Fuji country’). The prefecture's Nihombashi 'antenna shop' is celebrating the occasion with an in-store event where you can buy a variety of Fuji-themed items and snacks – including cans of air taken from the summit of the peak itself. (Yours for ¥500, lazy mountaineers!) If you prefer to save your yen for more sensible items, then pop by for the Yamanashi Market on July 25 and 26, offering a plethora of fresh fruit, vegetables and wine from the region.
