With a name that literally translates as 'white and black', Shiroikuro specialises in Japanese sweets made with black soybeans, including cakes and ice cream. This traditional confectioner opened in the summer of 2012 in a renovated old house in Azabu-Juban, lending it an almost timeless feel. The Kyoto-style kuromame shio daifuku – salted mochi dumplings filled with black bean paste (pictured) – are the biggest attraction, though you might also be tempted to try offerings such as the kuromame shio Swiss roll.
