First Sunrise Cinema at Osanbashi

Yokohama's Osanbashi Terminal is one of the city's top spots for viewing the first sunrise of the year, and crowds start gathering around the ship-shaped pier long before the main event. Nicely enough, the terminal's indoor area turns into an impromptu cinema for the night, with three movies – Chef (2014), Furious 7 (2015) and Samurai Hustle (2014) – screened in succession from midnight on. The programme also includes a 'countdown concert' (from 8pm) and a midnight steam whistle 'symphony' to mark the coming of 2016, conducted by the ships anchored around Osanbashi. No entrance fees are required, which only adds to the merriment.
