Time Out says

Marked every year on May 18, International Museum Day celebrates the social significance of museums and is promoted by the International Council of Museums (ICOM), an organisation of more than 35,000 members. Us ordinary folk know it mainly as a day when many of Tokyo's museums waive their entrance fees and put on a range of fun special events. Here's a list of the facilities taking part on the day:

Tokyo National Museum (permanent collection only), National Museum of Nature and Science, National Museum of Western Art, Shitamachi Museum, Koga Masao Museum of Music, The National Art Center, Tokyo (Issey Miyake Exhibition only), Tobacco & Salt Museum, National Film Centre (exhibitions only), Japanese Sword Museum, Mitsui Memorial Museum.
