Komae Kodai Cup Raft Race

An annual summer highlight along the Tamagawa in Komae, this wet'n wild river race is returning for its 26th edition in mid-July. A total of 98 teams will be bringing their homemade rafts to the fray, competing in both the actual speed race and a near-endless variety of more humorous categories, including 'most innovative vehicle'. The winning crew will take home the Kodai Cup, a humble trophy modelled on the pottery used by the prehistoric residents of what is now Komae City, while onlookers can look forward to all kinds of family-friendly fun on the riverbanks near Izumi-Tamagawa Station. We recommend heading over early to secure your seat – the first race is at 10am sharp.
