Take the Keisei line less than ten minutes from the Skytree and you'll be at Nonbe Yokocho, Tateishi's wonderfully old-school alleyway zone that hosts around a dozen eateries and izakayas, all offering quality grub at seriously low prices. While the waves of 'redevelopment' rage all around eastern Tokyo, this Showa relic has remained protected – mainly thanks to the efforts of the close-knit local community. This one-day festival is the perfect time to explore the area; you can look forward to a karaoke contest, folk gigs, a photo exhibition and more, of course in addition to ample amounts of cheap booze and snacks.
