The kiku (chrysanthemum) is not only the ‘royal flower’ of Japan, symbolising the imperial family, but it’s also one of the symbolic flowers of autumn. Among other kiku matsuri going on all around Tokyo at the moment is this one at Yokohama's Sankeien, where over 500 chrysanthemum plants and bonsai trees of various types are on display in grand configurations. If your Japanese is up to par, check out one of the talks on how to grow the perfect royal plant.
