Shibuya Countdown

Shibuya Countdown

The wildest place in Tokyo to be for the countdown to 2018 is probably at Shibuya crossing, which turns into a writhing mass of humanity at midnight. Just like last year, the area around the scramble crossing and up towards Dogenzaka and Bunkamura-dori will be closed to traffic, letting the tens of thousands of assembled revellers celebrate in style. Afterwards, you could head to a local club like Womb or Vision, or else go and join the queues at Meiji Shrine for the all-important ritual of hatsumode – the first shrine visit of the year.
