For keen walkers and inquisitive visitors alike, the Yamathon tramps through parts of Tokyo other hikes just don't reach. This fundraiser sees teams of four people (max) follow the circular Yamanote line, stopping off at all 29 stations along the way, to raise cash for Oxfam Japan. The event is open to all comers, though you'll need to be sprightly enough to complete the course – approximately 38 kilometres in total – in under 12 hours. Each team needs to raise a minimum donation of ¥8,000, all of which will go straight to the charity's Democratic Republic of Congo appeal; the deadline for registrations is April 17 (details here).
