Step onto the pebbles of Folkestone Beach and it won’t be long before your eyes catch the gleaming white, wave-like behemoth that stands on its western side. That’s Shoreline, a fancy new block of 84 apartments, duplexes and penthouses, completed back in 2024. Most of those apartments are on sale right now for upwards of £375k, but there is one reserved for anyone staying in Folkestone for a short foray.
The View at Shoreline is an incredibly sleek, tastefully furnished self-catered townhouse, ideal for a foursome of friends or two couples. If you’re after somewhere conveniently located with splendid vistas, you won’t get much better.
What’s it like inside The View at Shoreline?
You’ve got five storeys at your disposal. On the ground floor, which has a front door opening directly onto the beach, you’ll find the smaller of the two double bedrooms (facing directly out onto the beach) and a separate little bathroom. Skip the basement – it’s empty save for some deckchairs and beachy bits. Upstairs is where things get a bit more exciting. The spacious kitchen with its wooden finishings has every bit of equipment you could ask for (including a Nespresso coffee machine) and more storage than I imagine four people could possibly need (case in point: a wine fridge that could fit at least 12 bottles).
The palatial high-ceilinged living room is on the next floor. This is where you can enjoy the best view in the house – I could have quite easily spent the entire morning people-watching from the curved balcony and gazing at the unobstructed panorama of the English Channel. Inside, you’ll find yourself letting out a long content sigh as you sink into the soft corner sofa and a large flat screen TV and a speaker are on hand for cosy nights in. If you want to sit outside with more privacy, there’s a lovely little courtyard behind the kitchen (though you would be sacrificing those stunning views). Finally on the top floor you have the bright master bedroom (and ensuite), which looks out at Leas Cliff.
For me, the unexpected highlight of the place was that, although there are people constantly walking past and pebbles that loudly rattle against breaking waves, when all the doors and windows are shut the entire property is astonishingly, luxuriously quiet.
What’s the area around The View like?
All of Folkestone’s best bits are a short walk away. Stroll two minutes along the boardwalk and you’ll get to the brand new Sea Scrub Sauna which, with its two wood fired saunas, hot tub, two cold plunges, fire pit and friendly cafe, is the largest beach sauna in the country. We spent a sunny Sunday morning there, running out to the sea and back into the heated huts – I can confirm it’s really, really excellent.
A little further along is the sprawling Folkestone Harbour, which is full to the brim with food stalls, brunch spots, bars and artisan craft stores to peruse. We filled up on some fantastic pizza at Brewing Brothers and had a chilled time with some fizz and live music at the Lighthouse Champagne Bar at the end of Harbour Arm. Turn towards the town centre and you’ll get to the Creative Quarter, a colourful cobbled street lined with independent galleries, craft shops and cafes (if you’re after a one-of-a-kind trinket I recommend perusing the lovely South East Emporium at the top of the road).
