Did you know that there are more than 1.6 million hotels on TripAdvisor? Around the world, the online travel platform features pretty much every kind of hotel you can imagine, from Travelodges in London to mountain lodges in Nepal. And every year TripAdvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards celebrate the best of those hotels, revealing which ones have received the most high-scoring reviews over the past 12 months.
This week TripAdvisor revealed the 2025 edition of its Travellers’ Choice Awards, and impressively rather a few UK hotels made the cut. Across several categories, British hotels (and inns, and B&Bs) were named among the best on the planet.
In total, 11 British places to stay featured in TripAdvisor’s 2025 Travellers’ Choice Awards. Chief among them was St Ermin’s Hotel in London, which was named in the top 10 of the prestigious ‘best hotels in the world’ category. We covered that achievement in more detail on Time Out London here.
UK establishments dominated TripAdvisor’s ‘B&Bs and inns’ category, with four places featuring in the top 20. Those were The Toulson Court in Scarborough (fourth best in the world) Hillcrest Whitby (7), The Berburry Hotel in Torquay (11) and Highcliffe House in Lynton (15).
In TripAdvisor’s ranking of the best ‘pet friendly’ hotels in the world, British spots also did well with three in the final list. South Lawn Hotel in Milford placed fourth, The Chesterfield Mayfair in London 14th and Gidleigh Park in Dartmoor 18th.
Gidleigh Park was the only UK hotel to feature in two category lists, also coming fifth in TripAdvisor’s ranking of the world’s top ‘luxury’ hotels. In the same list, Gidleigh Park was swiftly followed by Oxfordshire’s Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, A Belmond Hotel (pictured above) in sixth.
The final section that British hotels succeeded in was in the ‘one of a kind’ category, which was designed to celebrate ‘offbeat stays are unlike anything else out there’. Edinburgh’s floating five-star Fingal Hotel came fourth globally, while Port Lympne Hotel, which is in a safari park, came 15th.
