Free on the last weekend in July? Interested in catching a brand new movie in a beautifully airconditioned cinema – all for free?

Good news, then, because more than 120 indie cinemas in the UK are dishing out free tickets to Sunny Dancer, the latest from The Last of Us breakout star Bella Ramsay.

The Scotland-set coming-of-age flick is directed by George Jaques and will be screened for free as part of the BFI Escapes initiative ahead of its release on August 14.

The movies follows 17-year-old Ivy (Ramsay), who beats cancer only to be sent to a Scottish summer camp for kids affected by the disease. More than a little put out to be stuck with fellow sufferers, she soon finds unexpected friends within the group of misfits at ‘Chemo Camp.’

House of Guinness and McMafia’s James Norton and Baby Reindeer’s Jessica Gunning play Ivy’s parents. Look out, too, for Neil Patrick Harris and a cameo from singer-songwriter and low-key social media genius James Blunt.

The soundtrack is the handiwork of Este Haim and Zachary Dawes, a regular Lana Del Rey collaborator.

Great names, in other words, and very good value at – checks notes – completely free. Book a seat at the official Escapes site now.

Since its launch in February 2024, Escapes has brought well over 115,000 people back to local cinemas with free nationwide screenings, including the likes of The Surfer, Lollipop and most recently, Wasteman.
