Every December, plenty of us hope for a white Christmas. By January, the novelty has generally worn off and snow seems less like a magical force of nature and more like a plot to keep our socks eternally damp. Despite that, it might be a good time to try and channel that child-like wonder, because a lot of snow is about to hit the UK.

Multiple forecasters are predicting snowfall to begin on February 6. At the moment, it looks like the most affected areas of the UK will be high up areas in the north of England and parts of the Midlands like Cheshire and Derbyshire. These areas could see up to five inches of snow on Feb 6.

The snow is predicted to travel from west to east, beginning around Liverpool and ending up as far as Norwich. Although Scotland will be hit with the coldest weather, with temperatures hitting as low as -8C, there isn’t currently snow forecasted there. All the misery without any of the fun. Sorry guys.

Temperatures south of the border will drop to around -5C in northern England, while pretty much the entire UK will be what experts refer to as ‘really bloody cold’.

Obviously the weather is subject to change, so have a look at your local forecast for the most accurate and up-to-date information. The Met Office emphasises that long forecasts like these are not as reliable as regular ones, and to make sure to check in closer to the time. Other than that, enjoy the snow and may god be with you and your socks.
