Get on the phone to any and all middle-aged yoga fanatics that you know, cause we’ve got some big news. David Lloyd, provider of premium gyms for people who shop at Waitrose, has announced 13 brand-new spa retreats as part of a huge investment into the business.

Understandably, the health and wellbeing industry has seen a boom since the pandemic. Keeping well has never been so important to people, and they’re willing to pay extra to make sure they stay at the top of their game. Despite the cost-of-living crisis, David Lloyd has gone from strength to strength, seeing an increase of 10 million visitors last year.

According to the company’s chief executive Russel Barnes, ‘There’s been a fundamental shift in people looking after their health and wellness.

‘Our members want us to become even more premium. They want the quality to increase, so we’ve got a massive investment programme over the next five years.’

Retreats aren’t the only thing coming to David Lloyd’s high-end health clubs. There are also plans to increase the number of pickle-ball and padel tennis courts, as well as significant investments into renewable energy, with £30 million to go towards new solar panels and a further £20 million dedicated to energy-efficient tech.

There’s no set date for these spas to open, but if you start saving now you may be able to afford a month’s membership by the time they do. Good luck!
