First look: Newcastle’s historic Turkish baths have reopened after an £8 million refurb

The glow-up City Baths now boast relaxation chambers, mood lighting and a brand-new spa

Over the past two years, Newcastle’s City Baths have been going through a major glow-up. Now, they’re back in action and ready for a big reveal.

The building’s £8 million upgrade includes a renovation of the building’s iconic glass dome ceiling, plus installation of relaxation chambers, atmospheric mood lighting and a brand-new spa (which is opening in May). 

The baths are one of just seven historic Turkish baths still functioning in the UK, so this is a pretty major occasion. They offer a traditional dry heat experience which is said to help ease muscles and improve blood circulation. 

As well as all that, visitors can make use of the pool, sauna, a revamped gym and a bunch of workout classes. The grand reopening marks the end of the huge restoration project, which was led by Fusion Lifestyle. 

A two-hour trip to the historic baths starts at £21.50 or you can get your hands on a membership from just £60. Here’s a sneak peak at their new look:
