Glasgow’s Southside is currently one of the city’s buzziest places for independent restaurants, and now there’s another one coming to the mix. Legendary Edinburgh vegan and vegetarian Hendersons is opening a sister site in Strathbungo this summer

Located at 721 Pollokshaws Road, the menu will continue Hendersons’ focus on seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. Fans of the original Edi restaurant’s offerings will be delighted to see the signature haggis on the menu, along with house-made smoked tofu and Cullen skink (a thick Scottish soup typically made of smoked haddock) made with dulse seaweed and sea leeks. There will also be a brunch menu and Hendersons’ iconic vegetarian and vegan Sunday roasts.

We don’t know when exactly Hendersons’s Southside spot will open yet, but according to their website it should be this summer.

The Edinburgh Hendersons is currently in Time Out’s ranking of the best restaurants in the city right nowOur write-up praised the place for its ‘innovative vegetarian cuisine’, adding that the restaurant has been ‘an undeniable hit with original dishes that use locally sourced whole food and organic ingredients, plus new and exciting additions to the menu’.

Hendersons in Edinburgh was founded way back in in 1962 by Janet Henderson, the grandmother of Barrie Henderson – who re-established the joint in 2021.

Barrie said: ‘In some ways this is a totally new venture, but it also feels like returning to our roots by going back to my gran’s home city and where some of the original recipes came from. That connection is really important to us; continuing her legacy.’
