On Saturday (September 8) England’s men’s team triumphed over Andorra in a match that, if we’re being honest, wasn’t exactly something to write home about. But Three Lions’ next game might be just that bit more exciting. They’ll face Serbia in what will likely be the team’s most testing 2026 World Cup qualifier yet.

Serbia currently sit second – behind England – in Group K for 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification. The Balkan country’s team are just five points behind the Three Lions with a game in-hand, and England are playing on away turf. Neither side has so far conceded a goal in its quest to compete in Canada, Mexico and the United States next summer.

Keen to watch what could be the most exciting game in England’s World Cup qualifying campaign? Here’s what you need to know about watching it on TV and streaming.

England and Serbia head-to-head history, timeline and results

England and Serbia’s men’s teams have only met in one competitive match, at last year’s European Championships. They won that game 1-0.

  • June 16 2024: Serbia 0-1 England

However, Serbia and England have actually met more than just once. Between 2003 and 2006 Serbia competed as Serbia and Montenegro, while before that the country was represented by the Yugoslavia national team. Here are those head-to-head results.

  • June 3 2003: England 2-1 Serbia and Montenegro
  • December 13 1989: England 2-1 Yugoslavia
  • November 11 1987: Yugoslavia 1-4 England
  • November 12 1986: England 2-0 Yugoslavia
  • June 5 1974: Yugoslavia 2-2 England
  • October 11 1972: England 1-1 Yugoslavia
  • June 5 1968: England 0-1 Yugoslavia
  • May 4 1966: England 2-0 Yugoslavia
  • May 9 1965: Yugoslavia 1-1 England
  • May 11 1960: England 3-3 Yugoslavia
  • May 11 1958: Yugoslavia 5-0 England
  • November 28 1956: England 3-0 Yugoslavia
  • May 16 1964: Yugoslavia 1-0 England
  • November 22 1950: England 2-2 Yugoslavia
  • May 18 1939: Yugoslavia 2-1 England

England have won seven, Serbia (sort of) 4 and there have been five draws.

England’s remaining fixtures for FIFA World Cup 2026 qualification

After Serbia, England only have three more games to qualify for next year’s World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the USA. Here’s who the Three Lions still have to play.

  • September 9: Serbia v England
  • October 14: Latvia v England
  • November 13: England v Serbia
  • November 16: Albania v England
