Ah, good old Starry ’Bs. Just when we thought we were over their pumpkin spice lattes and other caffeinated gimmicks, they’ve gone and done it again. Olive oil-infused coffee is now a thing, and the coffee chain plans to bring it to the UK later this year after rolling it out in Italy and the USA.

Known as the ‘Oleato’ range, the drinks contain Partanna extra virgin olive oil and include variations like oat milk lattes, cold brews and cortados. The drinks brand apparently took inspiration from the Italian custom of eating a spoonful of olive oil every day, while Starbucks’s interim chief executive, Howard Schultz, said the idea was born from a trip to Sicily last year.

‘I was absolutely stunned at the unique flavour and texture created when the Partanna extra virgin olive oil was infused into Starbucks coffee,’ Schultz said. ‘In both hot and cold coffee beverages, what it produced was an unexpected, velvety, buttery flavour that enhanced the coffee and lingers beautifully on the palate.’ Could olive oil lattes be the new pumpkin spice? Only time will tell.
