Britain’s most romantic hotel is this Cotswolds pub with award-winning food

Cosy season is finally upon us. Before you decide to run away from the UK in search of winter sun, consider this: an idyllic staycation for two, somewhere in the British countryside.

For one of the UK’s most romantic getaways, book a room at The Bull in the Cotswolds. The 16th century pub with rooms sits on Sheep Street in Charlbury. With candlelit tables, a roaring fireplace, four-poster beds and free-standing baths, it’s hard to imagine somewhere more primed for romance at this time of year. There are just 10 rooms, decked out in soft whites and pretty oak features, so it feels suitably private.

It’s run by Public House, the same team behind posh pubs the Pelican, the Hero and the Fat Badger in London, so food is a big focus. Once you’ve settled into your room and gone on a lovers’ stroll around the village, sit down for dinner in its minimalist, low lit restaurant and tuck into show-stopping dishes like monkfish, rib of beef or lobster.
