Who hasn’t dreamt of ditching everything for a romantic cottage on a blustery coastline, with just yourself and a few sheep for company? Well, now you can live out that dream (minus the sheep, anyway). One of the UK’s most isolated properties has just gone on the market in Dorset

The property in question is a two-bedroom cottage that dates back to the early 1900s and was previously a coastguard gut. Sitting on England’s Jurassic Coast, it boasts spectacular seaside views over Weymouth Bay and the Isle of Portland. It’s exactly as magical as it sounds.

While the property is isolated, it isn’t really, properly, totally isolated. It’s part of a row of seven terraced cottages, so at least you’d have a few neighbours for company.

The cottage is on the market for just £225,000, but there are a few catches. Firstly, it’s so off-grid that it has no mains electricity or services. Its electricity and water needs to be sourced on-site, meaning that living here is quite a lot of work. According to the estate agents at Symond & Sampson, it also needs a new septic tank, kitchen and bathroom.

Secondly, the property is banned from being rented out as a holiday let. A 121-year-old covenant that was made by the Weld estate (a big-shot Dorset landowner) in 1902 means that the property can essentially only be used ‘for the purpose of a private residence’.

Despite the drawbacks, there aren’t many places like it. Here are some pics of the place.
